Our History

MJ Architectural Studios is a consulting firm uniquely positioned to provide architectural services to clients who expect timely, high-quality, professional services for northern Minnesota. These services are applied to a variety of project types including healthcare, commercial, transportation, educational, financial, hospitality, housing, religious, retail and manufacturing facilities. Our professional office is located on the southwest shore of Lake Bemidji in the Lakewood Office Plaza in Bemidji, MN. We also have a branch office located in Warroad, MN, the only US port city on Lake of the Woods. Our firm was founded in 2002 by a registered architect and an architectural technician with over fifty-five collective years of progressive and responsible experience. We are a small, efficient, 3-person design team that has successfully completed projects over $10 million in construction value.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide Northern Minnesota with professional architectural services for all building types, from concept planning and studies through completion of construction and life of the building. Each project is unique with its’ own special needs and challenges. Due to this uniqueness, we team with highly skilled architectural, engineering and technical consultants, hand-picked for that specific project. Thereby collaborating together, using design creativity, common sense and practical experience to ensure a successful project from start to finish.

Local presence on any project is a must. We know northern Minnesota, the contractors, the market climate, and the clients. That is why on certain projects, due to unique project requirements, we have teamed with other architects to ensure effective communication with local clients, contractors, consultants, and government officials. As a result, the client gets the best of both worlds, the confidence in achieving a “world-class” facility and the teamwork of a local liaison that proves invaluable when the project goes smoothly.

Our Philosophy

We believe in building relationships that promote teamwork. We realize that when you select an Architect we are just one part of a very complex endeavor and a successful project truly requires a team effort to ensure a project is delivered on time, on budget, and meets your present and future needs. We believe the basic foundation of teamwork is communication. We strive to provide complete and concise drawings, specifications, and reports promptly and accurately that communicate the design intent to the whole team.

We understand that design and construction is not “an end”, but rather “a means” for our clients to be more efficient, productive, expressive, and identifiable.
